About Committee Days
No matter which sector of the mechanical insulation industry you represent or what your specific interest is in your industry’s trade association, there is a place for you at the 2011 Committee Days. Join us in the nation’s capital to provide valuable input to both your association and your industry as a whole.
Committee Days is a unique experience where members come together to help shape the direction of the National Insulation Association by sharing ideas, discussing industry trends, and expressing concerns and problems to benefit the mechanical industry as a whole. Making connections is more important than ever in today’s marketplace, and this is one of two yearly opportunities for NIA members to come together face to face. If you have not attended Committee Days or are not involved in one of NIA’s 10 operating committees, click on this link to find which committee is your best match, request more information, or sign up to join a committee. Go to the Members Only section of the website for access to committee meeting minutes to learn more about the goals and actions of each committee. When registering for Committee Days, indicate which committee meetings you would like to attend. The success of these committees rests entirely on the participation of NIA members.
What to Expect
For two days, approximately 100 NIA members (primarily contractors) come together to report on the business of NIA’s 10 operating committees, as well as learn about industry trends, receive updates on programs covering the latest business topics, and see first-hand how NIA is working to share thebenefits of mechanical insulation with legislators and industry leaders. There is also time to connect with familiar faces and newcomers at a luncheon and reception on Tuesday.
Health & Safety Roundtable
NIA and its Health and Safety Committee will host the 6th Annual Health & Safety Roundtable Wednesday, November 9, 2011, from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunity for members and their safety directors to sit down with industry colleagues to share and receive information important to protecting your employees and your bottom line. This session is moderated by Chris Handley, manager, Corporate Safety for Performance Contracting, Inc., and Gary Auman, NIA's general counsel, of Dunlevey, Mahan & Furry. Attendees can suggest topics for discussion that are most important to them. Topics covered will include safety, health, insurance, and workers compensation issues.
There is a separate registration fee to attend the Safety Roundtable. Those attending both the Committee Days meeting and the Roundtable will be eligible to receive a $15 discount off the combined registration fee.
Join fellow NIA Members for lunch and hear Henry L. Green, president of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS), address the ever-changing building industry, including both the opportunities and challenges on the horizon. This talk will cover high-performance buildings, building information modeling, the importance of information exchange, changing energy and water codes and standards, and a host of other topics. There will also be an update on Foundation activities, including legislative strategies and the Mechanical Insulation Education and Awareness Campaign e-Learning modules, as well as a discussion about NIA’s partnership with the Department of Energy and NIBS.
